The Westerly Owners' Association - Ireland Area
Group AGM Dinner
Signal Honour for Ireland Group
Each year the Westerly Owners Association makes an award for the best contribution to furtherance of the Association’s interest, namely The Commodore’s Clock. At the 2011 AGM in Poole the flag officers announced their agreement on this years recipient. A week later at The Ireland Area Group AGM in a surprise announcement WOA Commodore Bernard Clarke presented us with this prestigious accolade.
The group representative Gary McGuire, who in speechless shock thanked the Commodore, and acknowledged the contribution of the supportive committee and group members, received the Commodore’s Clock. The significance of this honour is remarkable as in its history this is the first occasion it has been awarded overseas. The gesture signals the Association’s recognition of the involvement of our members in the successful development of the Ireland Area Group.
The AGM discussed the appointment of the committee and in the absence of new nominations; the committee of last year was re-elected. It was also agreed that some other members could be co-opted. It was agreed that the End of Season Dinner would be held out of Dublin and that our main cruise would head north. Commodore Bernard Clarke gave a report on association affairs and the meeting concluded almost on schedule.
Dinner in Howth Yacht Club was of the usual high standard and all enjoyed the good company. Our after dinner speaker was Commodore Bernard who presented an enthralling account with power-packed PowerPoint of his and Jean’s globe-girdling voyage in Golden Eye of Chichester.
