The Westerly Owners' Association - National Cruise:
June 2009
“The West Country: On and Off”
June 14th - July 1st 2009
For the second consecutive year, our National Cruise began in mid-June and enjoyed excellent weather. The 17-day cruise began in Yarmouth, moved to Studland, Portland (where we did get weather-bound for a couple of days), Dartmouth, Plymouth, Fowey and Falmouth. The On and Off structure of the cruise meant that while there were events organised every few days, there was plenty of time for boats to explore on their own during the ‘Off Cruise’ days between, and the organisation allowed boats to join or leave at any point.
This year over 40 boats signed up for the West Country cruise, and a few members gate-crashed the parties as they came across us along the way, so although we never had more than 30 boats in any location, we probably met nearly 60 crews along the way!
Andy and Liz Truscott ensured that the dinners, lunches, beach BBQs and a pontoon party or two kept everyone happy, and most people managed to get to several places they had not seen before. Full details in the Winter magazine.
