Dinner and talk on Saturday 19 April 2008

As usual, this event was held in the evening in the Deganwy Castle Hotel, Conwy. We had a room to ourselves where 35 attendees had space to socialise over a drink before sitting down to an excellent 3-course meal.

After the meal, Brian Bell and Peter Boylan described progress in organising the Isle of Man rally, and Peter, who is also national Secretary of the WOA, gave some of the latest national WOA news. Mary Boylan reported on the successful and oversubscribed Sea Survival Course held in February, and on the Committee’s thoughts on organising future courses.

We were honoured and very lucky to have as our speaker, Bob Shapland, who gave us his “Reflections of an ex-Commodore”. At the national WOA AGM in February Bob had come to the end of his 2-year term of office as Commodore and, in accordance with the rules, had retired from the national committee. He treated us to and interesting and amusing talk which included describing the somewhat traumatic process to get a Westerly Pageant displayed at the London Boat Show.

Brian Bell.
