The Westerly Owners' Association - South Coast Group
Itchenor Rally, 14 August 2011
The weather on the weekend was fortunately kinder to us than last year and 11 boats made the trip to Chichester Harbour and up into Itchenor Reach and moored up to the Chichester Harbour Conservancy floating pontoon just upstream from Itchenor Sailing club, our host for the evening meal. We arrived early afternoon having motored about half a mile from our mooring, and were pleased to see several boats already moored to the pontoon. There were the rally stalwarts like Dunlin, Optimist and Stormbird as well as a few new, to us anyway, who had travelled, mostly from within the Solent to join the rally. These were: Lady Caroline, Shadow, Satisfaction, Driudston, Sunset Lady, Montoose and Moonstorm. After chatting with old friends and making some new ones we set up the pontoon party at 6.00pm, by which time 11 boats had arrived.
Conversation and drinks flowed and it was good to see some new faces. After an hour or so, dinghies were pumped up and we all adjourned to Itchenor sailing club for our evening meal where we were joined by some more Westerly owners all in all 34 of us. After a leisurely meal, a short dinghy ride back to our boats and a good night’s sleep.
Optimist had to leave early to the next morning to catch the best of the easterly going tide back to Brighton, but the majority spent a lazy morning relaxing on our boats waiting for the tide to turn. The sun made a welcome appearance. High tide was about 1.00pm so one by one the boats left and sailed for home.
