The Westerly Owners' Association - South Coast Group
Soup Kitchen and Winter Walk – Sunday 26th February 2012
Thirty Five members, families, friends and many dogs enjoyed a sunny day for the first South Coast Event of the Year. Dick and Jane Leedham set up their mobile home soup kitchen and members were greeted with the offer of hot refreshments when they arrived at Wilverley Plain.
There was a choice of three walks, a ramble on the plain, the Wilverley Wonder 2.5ml, or an extended walk of 3.25ml. One member with shorter legs enjoyed running and playing on the plain. Most members did the longer walk using printed instructions. Unfortunately some members did go astray and extended their walk.
Returning to the soup kitchen and kind hospitality of Dick and Jane offering tomato or mushroom soup and crusty bread and tea and coffee gave us more time to meet new members and share memories with our sailing friends.
While enjoying these refreshments we became concerned as police officers inspected cars around us. A new member braved to enquire and we were told they were doing security awareness checks to make the public aware of the dangers of leaving bags and valuables on view.
Members stayed a little longer to enjoy the weather, surroundings and company.
