South Coast Group AGM October 25th

The 2008 South Coast Group AGM was held once again at Quayside, Port Solent on 25th October. As with almost all the South Coast Group events this year, the weather was miserable, but despite this, ten boats (and three motorhomes) braved the elements to get to Port Solent.

A total of 64 members attended the AGM itself. Four committee members had completed their tours of duty and were standing down, Paul and Karen Walker, Paul Skinner and Paul Goulstone. They were replaced by David and Judith Symonds, Geoff and Sue Witt and Gill Eakins. Judith takes over as secretary from Karen, and Geoff takes over as treasurer from Paul Skinner. Members re-elected for a further term were Dick Leedham (chairman), Jane Leedham, Jan Wise, Jeremy Smallwood and Tony Eakins.

The meeting included the prizegiving for the SCG 2008 races. These were as follows:

Westerly Round the Island Race
Line Honours (Jacres Bell) Shiatsu (Graham Tracy)
First Place (Westerly Shield) Karis (Geoff Waterhouse)
Second Place Brassed off (Paul and Karen Walker)
Third Place Shiatsu (Graham Tracey)
Nab Tower / Forts Race
Line Honours (Q.L.B.Y Bowl) Golden Dawn (Julian & Liz Roberts)
First Place (Nab Tower trophy) Golden Dawn (Julian & Liz Roberts)
Second Place White Magic (Simon and Val Atkinson)
Third Place Windeye (Tony and Judi Williams)
Julian Roberts received the Quay Lane Boat Yard trophy from Chairman, Dick Leedham

Special mementos were also awarded to those attending by motorhome. These were in the form of keyrings with the adopted motif of the Westerly Motorhome Group: “Tempestus Britannica Mos Non Terreo Nos” – British weather will not deter us!

The AGM was followed by a presentation “Optimist around Great Britain” given by Michael and Mary Allan with many informative slides and interesting and amusing anecdotes culled from their three (!) circumnavigations of Great Britain.

This was followed by an excellent three-course dinner, with the opportunity to chat and swing the lamp with old friends (there were also some young friends present). This was followed by dancing to the sounds of “Easy Listening” – with our very own Geoff and Sue Witt on keyboard and guitar to complete the evening.
