Island Harbour Marina - Children’s activities and Family Weekend

We were the second boat to arrive at Island Harbour and were anxiously asked by the crew of Optimist if we had any children as they didn’t. Fortunately we were able to muster our elder daughter….she’s 38 so maybe didn’t qualify! Eventually eight boats arrived and settled alongside comfortably. Due to the impending birth of their granddaughter, Geoff and Sue, the organisers, were only able to briefly visit, bearing fare for the pontoon party.

The bistro had been taken over by new management that day, which meant that the pre booked BBQ had to be cancelled by the organisers, but we booked a table for the group and arrived at 1930. By 2130, one of our table had had his starter. We all looked on enviously and wished that we had ordered whitebait too! Eventually we were all fed and the staff were very apologetic. The numerous delays were compounded by another large table (who arrived after us) being a little the worse for wear and the management wished to serve them quickly so they would leave.

There were no children’s activities because there was only one child. However the weather was good and we all had a good time walking, picnicking and chatting on the pontoon.
