Sanda muster in June
We had a good response
to this event, and like last year we were blessed with a period
of excellent weather; probably the best spell of the summer.
The pre-muster events at Lamlash and Gigha went
well, albeit with some 'minor problems'.
Jim and Jan Montgomery (Maalesh) experienced
an engine water-pump problem, which resulted in them having to return
to Ardfern, instead of proceeding to Sanda. Tony and Freda Walters
(Spirit of Grace) kindly volunteered to accompany them back, so
both boats missed the Sanda rendezvous.
The perfect sunny day at Sanda gave the crews
plenty of time to enjoy themselves on the island, before our social
evening in the pub. We were treated to some music from a contingent
of the Campbeltown Youth Pipe Band, with bagpipes and drums playing
for several hours; a real party atmosphere.
In the evening more music was provided, first
of all on the pipes by Ian McLeod and then concertinas and trumpet
by Alex West and friends. This even led to some dancing!
The perfect weather and sandy bay at Sanda also
encouraged Bob Shapland (our Commodore) to beach Romonist the next
morning and give its bottom a clean (one of the advantages of a
bilge keeler).
The boats attending this muster were Romonist
(Commodore), Clar Innis, Carpe Diem, Dream Weaver, La Rica. Elgar,
Border Legend and Osprey.
