South West Group Winter Walk

Winter Walk 2011
Winter Walk 2011

On Saturday 12 March 2011 - in true “Westerly” fashion – a group of intrepid “sailors” set off – on dry land! – to conquer a circular Winter Walk organised by Chris Taylor and assisted by his wife, Kathy. Our party consisted of 33 humans and 4 dogs, from as far afield as Penzance. Chris and Marguerite Strang were running late, and so joined us at Prawle Point, increasing the number of humans to 35!

As we set off, the sun was shining, the sky was blue and the jovial company added to the pleasure of the walk. From East Prawle we headed towards Gammon Head and then onto Prawle Point. We had a brief stop at NCI Prawle Point, and some of our group looked round the Watchstation and the Visitor Centre.

We continued along the coast towards Lannacombe, and then headed back towards East Prawle village. The views were breathtaking and everyone seemed in good spirits, chattering and laughing, whilst meandering uphill and downhill and scrambling over rocks, and enjoying the fresh air and fine weather. We lunched at the Pigs Nose Inn – a very “quaint” establishment – and then everyone departed.

It was lovely to meet up with old friends again, and also welcome new members. So thank you Chris for organising wonderful Winter Walks complete with marvellous weather – and long may they continue!

Marcia and Colin Lancelott.
