Rigging Workshop a Success
January 30th saw a joint presentation/ rigging workshop with the Blackwater Sailing Club at their warm clubhouse near Heybridge Basin. Over 60 people came including 34 WOA members representing 23 Westerlys. Due to medical problems the original rigger, David Beech from Sailspar had to pull out a few days before but we were able to get Jim Dines of TS Rigging Maldon to fill the gap at short notice. TS Rigging specialise in traditional boats and barges but have wide experience and have recently supplied new rigging for a dismasted Oyster in Malaysia and a dismasted Benteau 21 locally. Jim gave a one hour presentation with slides and physical examples covering every aspect of rigging but concentrating on preventative maintenance. There then followed a formal question and answer session followed by a less formal one over a cup of tea.
Having been presented with a WOA pennant the BSC Commodore ( to whom Bill Miller sold a Mirror many years ago) expressed the hope that a further joint event could be held in the future.
NB TS Rigging will give any WOA member worldwide a 10% discount and appear to be cheaper than many.
